Riding in was fine. I started at 7am and rode the couple of kilometres of seal to the turnoff quite fast. The park pay-entrance was interesting only in the lack of payment options for cyclists. You can pay by the bus-load, car-load or motorbike, but not if you're a pedestrian or cyclist. I decide that if that's the way they want it, so shall it be, and ride on without paying.
The gravel was annoying rather than painful, but there were enough corrugations to make me unenthusiastic about riding on through the park. Averaged about 10kph in the gravel, but there were a few bits where it was more like 2kph and much at about 15kph. The slow bits were pretty awful. Mind you, I got passed by a big camper with Danish tourists in it who were doing about 3kph and did not look happy.
I arrive and spend the afternoon in the gorge, since there's no sign of the group. The delay faction always seems to get their way in discussions, so it wouldn't surprise me if no-one turns up here until tomorrow. By then I'll be wondering about food, since it will take most of a day to get back out and I only brought food for 3 nights.
Trike notes again, I've decided that next time the steering should be based on an inverted tube T instead of having the plate in it as at present. Mudguard supports should be two pieces, by cutting the ones I have in half. That way I could adjust them a bit more. Having the mirrors on the handlebars works better for damping vibration, but they're not far enough out to be useful when I have panniers on. I also need to get the load forward somehow, but I have no ideas that don't involve lifting it way too high for peace of mind.
