CANC2: Driving Again, August 24

We had a fairly busy day packing up the camp then felt that we should leave as early as possible to get back with the group. Manfully we resisted the temptation. Well, in fact I biked into town in the morning to do email, but the place was not open until 2pm. Evan wanted to dial out from the laptop to do an update, and the centre was agreeable so we decided to wait.

Emailed Kelly, feeling more communicative now that the group is gone for a while. Eventually (after 4pm), drove 180-ish kilometres to find the rest of the group outside Mount Magnet. Got into "the granites" fairly late. Interesting places to go through on the way, just south of Meekatharra is a big mine around the road, one of the few places the average punter could actually get run over by a mining truck if they really put their mind to it (and went through the barriers and lights and sirens and screaming men with fluoro vests and signs, and all the other things. "I just didn't see them", really. I think my disrespect of motorists is showing.

Arrived, made dinner, went to sleep. Talked a bit to Evan, Tanya is keen on a mens circle but Jonas is against it. Evan and me think it would lead too easily into feminist games with the womens group activists in the group, so maybe not. Are we just buying into the myth that there are no gender issues here? That's definitely the official view, so maybe we just don't want to challenge that for no gain.

Tanya and Jonas have another process meeting scheduled for tomorrow. Asked Erin about her issues with the Meekatharra mine visit meeting - she grossed out and withdrew and I suspect it might be related to my comments. Maybe she'll talk later.
